I have two tests this morning and the first thing I step on this morning is cat’s hairball. Great. Juust great.

Stuck.

Many Christians have always been opposed to the teaching of evolution in schools. Evolutionists argue that this is because Christians worry it will dismantle the beliefs and values of the children. Evolutionists say it’s a ridiculous claim, and that they just want to teach the children what has been discovered.
For a long time, my thoughts were like of those of evolutionists. Why hide facts, not truth, from the students? Provide them with facts and let them find the truth for themselves.
But now i think i know why the old Christians were so worried.
The main idea of evolution is the survival of the fittest. The fitter you are to survive this world, you simply have a better chance of survival. Fitness in the old days meant stronger, faster, and smarter. Now with machines that help us with the first two conditions, this world is now a battleground of brains. The smarter you are, you will stand above more people and will sacrifice them for your survival. When it comes to bottom line that’s what it is. In a way, capitalism is a way of smart people fishing the less talented with a bait called “freedom”. Some idealists saw this as actually taking true freedom away and developed an idea “socialism” that argues true freedom comes from equality.
Whatever the case maybe, true world, I mean the real, natural world is more like capitalism, although I might hesitate to admit it. There are no rules. It is free for all.
Some might see socialism as a more advanced form of social structure but the fact is that the human nature is the only and the biggest stand on its way of execution.
Capitalism shows what our true nature is like.
At this point, I can’t help but to ask the question of conscience. If we were born “bad” that all we care about is our fitness and our survival, where does compassion come from? How about love, kindness, and faith that people are good and there is HOPE that everything will be alright?
Are these emotions/states truly the bottom line or are there deeper stages that link this to our survival? Do we love others because it is beneficial for our survival?

I think this is where “choice” comes in. The choice to believe that people are good or that people are bad.

Many Christians were worried that teaching of these notions will deprive children of senses of love, kindness and compassion which is rock bottom values and there is nothing under them. Scholars who believe that we need to be stripped from these “irrational” thoughts and be “illuminated” say that no organism is involved in activities that is not beneficial to its survival - that there are in fact some things deeper than love or compassion.

It’s now my turn to choose. To tell the truth, I dont know the answer and have no idea what lies underneath me. The only option is to let it go and see for myself but I fear there is no coming back.
